Max Brooks, World War Z, Devolution and The WCCS!

Host Chris Aggett has a favorite book, a book that inspired his own book series. That book is World War Z. The author of that book is Max Brooks. Max is an American actor and NYT best-selling author, son of the legendary Mel Brooks and Anne Bancroft!

Max has written World War Z, The Zombie Survival Guide, Minecraft novels, and most recently, Devolution.

A book that has been called 'TRUE TERROR' by the Guardian and 'NAIL CHOMPING SUSPENSE' by Total Film.

In this episode, we talked about the sacrifices Max's mother, Anne, made during her successful career to help Max with his dyslexia. Which in those days was considerably less researched and understood. Max talks about his physical research for Devolution; making weapons and growing food in a garage! This episode is a highlight for host Chris, being released on his birthday to begin season 8!

Off Target with Eve Smith.

Longlisted for the Guardian's Not the Booker Prize and described by British bookshop chain Waterstones as: "an exciting new voice in crime fiction", Eve Smith's debut novel The Waiting Rooms was shortlisted for the Bridport Prize First Novel Award and was selected as a Book of the Month in The Guardian just after launch.

"Smith combines the excitement of a medical thriller à la Michael Crichton with sensitive characterization and social insight in a timely debut novel all the more remarkable for being conceived and written before the current pandemic."

Eve writes speculative fiction with a splash of Thriller thrown in. Her latest novel Off Target is chilling page turner set In an all-too-possible near future, when genetic engineering has become the norm for humans, not just crops, parents are prepared to take incalculable risks to ensure that their babies are perfect … altering genes that may cause illness, and more…

She attributes her love of all things dark and dystopian to a childhood watching Tales of the Unexpected and black-and-white Edgar Allen Poe double bills.

S.P.O'Farrell returns to the show after his appearance in season 1! His #book Simone LaFray and the Chocolatiers' Ball has received some excellent praise and sits at 4.8 out of 5 after 95 ratings! It began as a short #story and quickly turned into an award-winning novel: Moonbeam Awards, New York City Big Book Award, Queer Indie Award, LitPick Award, (sm)art festivals award and a finalist for Book Pipeline and National Indie Excellence Award.

Its sequel, Simone LaFray and the Red Wolves of London, was released this April and has already made a great start. I will be keen to see how Steves indie #author career has evolved over the past few years and what his new book holds in store for us!

Louise was born and lives in South Wales, yes thats right, not actually far from host Chris Aggett!

Louise studied English Literature at university and graduated with first class honours. As a teacher she tried to pass on her love of reading to her students (and discovered that the secret to successful teaching is… stickers! She is aware that that is, essentially, bribery.)

In the summer of 2019 Louise experienced a once-in-a-lifetime moment: she was discovered as a new writer by her publisher at the Primadonna Festival. Everything has been a bit of a whirlwind since then.

Louise lives in Cardiff with her husband and spends her time trying to get down on paper all the marvellous and frightening things that happen in her head.
